Hello Peeps!
Last weekend i posted about Austin Chase in Gardens MV, I havent been going around to any new cafes in the past week so no cafe to recommend.
However, to share a cafe related issue. Here’s one i designed about a year back.

Yes, the name is the Library. And in my defense, it was designed wayyy before The Library @ the curve came about. I have proof! lolz.
A design brief on what my version of The Library is about.
In the days of old, a library is where one goes to for information. In today’s age a library isnt as popular anymore. Cos information is being obtained anywhere, anytime thanks to advancement in digital technology. However, the client (undisclosed telco company) intends to bring the concept of a Library back via a cafe setup.
Instead of books, computers, videowall and internet TV is what makes this establishment. To appeal to the general demographic, the design has to be chic, vibrant, modern yet cozy. Too high-tech looking and it becomes cold. So what i did was to give this place a good mix. Using wood flooring, it gives the place a warm, cozy feeling. The glass bookshelves are being filled white empty books with the establishment name written on the book spine. And filling up the rest of the insides with modern tech.
As one moves in, the huge table at the front which bears a chromed teardrop base and a dark wooden top is a ‘show and tell’ table. Ie, should Apple do a small showcase of their product lineup, it can displayed there.

The videowall is what lines up the backwall of the entire cafe. It will continuously run videos of sorts making it interactive instead of a normal stagnant wall.

Overall lighting of the cafe is meant to be dark. With the videowall giving some part of the light. I’ve used furniture from Ron Arad and a couple of Swan Chairs. also to complete it, Orbit table to put in in the mix of chic-ness and modernity. The dome lights above each sets are from Artemide. And i’ve proposed for the Library to use Macs all around.
A trendy cafe counter is fashioned out of chrome, wood and concrete! Giving this place a raw yet sophisticated feel. The glass shelves form the backdrop of the cafe counter. Merchandise related to computers, coffee etc are what makes up the shelves.

Polished concrete with the words Library Cafe embossed into it.

Of course, some people prefer to be alone while whizzing around the internet. There’s always a bar seating for those lone rangers

You must be wondering what those cylindrical glass thingys are.
Their what i call Music-Pods. For people who download music, movies, etc and wanna watch them without putting their headphones on and disturbing the crowd, they can do as they please in there. Changing LED lights will definitely set the mood for entertainment!

One more visuals before i say goodbye. Imagine looking down onto the concourse of Pavilion and seeing this. I think it’ll be pretty cool.

Someday perhaps concept will become a reality.
I welcome all feedback on this post. Please comment!
Have a great weekend peeps. Bye!
Beautiful and awesome design I would say. Never thought of it before!
Sell the concept!
